I’m so physced – bought a great new bike. Got a Trek 8500 with full Shimano XT components and a Fox front suspension. Everyone tells you what a difference a better bike will make, but I never imagined it would make such a huge difference. The frame is so light it feels like you’re riding on air. And the shocks … they just beg for bumps and potholes. Unfortunately, I can’t say the same things for the saddle – it doesn’t feel like you’re riding on air and it definitely doesn’t beg for bumps and potholes – let’s just say it needs some getting used to.
So Sunday was the first time I used the new bike. As we do every Sunday, we left from Mater Dei hospital and then cycled to the location where we turn into laps. This Sunday’s lap took us from the Bugibba roundabout, up St. Paul’s Bay by-pass towards Ghajn Tuffieha, back to Bugibba through St. Paul’s Bay, through the coast road to Splash & Fun, and back again. We finished the ride at Lu Lu’s Bar in Swieqi for a hot cup of tea
On the whole the ride went well, and really enjoyed the new bike
However, it seems the heavens are adamant to christen me and my bikes. In the first Sunday ride (back in April) it was pouring rain all throughout the ride. On this Sunday, it drizzled all throughout the ride, but started hammering us as soon as we left from Lu Lu’s bar. I’m sure it’s something we need to get used to, so I’m not complaining
All in all, great new bike & a great Sunday ride

Hey Ed,
Just to let you know the saddle sore is normal with a new saddle, just give it some time and be patient it should disappear in two weeks or so. (been through the same with my new saddle)
Well done for the Blog, wish I had the patience to do it too.. but I’ve got too little time!!
Keep it up and see you Sunday!!
Liz
Hey Ed,
Now that the 2/3 weeks have passed, how’s the saddle?
Cheers,
Karl
